Style your wedding reception to compliment your venue

by emma 25. June 2013 11:20

Ambience Venue Styling work with hundreds of brides across the UK each year decorating venues with themes ranging from mad hatter’s tea parties to Great Gatsby-inspired celebrations! Here they reveal their top tips to decorating your venue, we hope some of their ideas will inspire you to dress your own venue.

The theme of your wedding starts with you – your dress, your tastes, your colour preferences and of course your budget! We encourage our brides to focus on co-ordinating from day one when the Save the Date cards go out to give your guests a flavour of the theme you have chosen for the day.

The way you do your decorations will be influenced by where you’re having your reception, here are our top tips to elegantly dressing your big day venue…
Hotel-Our top tip with hotels is to work with the décor of the room and think about how your colour scheme and theme will co-ordinator with the curtains, carpet colours and wall colour. Clashing colours don’t look great and we find that brides often don’t take this into account.

If you are not happy with the room décor, consider room draping. This is very romantic and not as costly as you might think. You may even be able to save money by choosing a lower-cost venue, which you can style as a blank canvas.
Barn-The best theme here is rustic, you can achieve some amazing looks with the rustic styling items now available. This year’s hot trend is hessian which would be perfect in a barn. Flower wise, large white gerberas in your centrepieces and on your top table will look great.
Country House-Less is more with this type of venue because the venue itself will be the star of the show. Decorations should be tasteful and subtle so that they enhance the venue. Often the chairs may not need covering but you can still decorate them with lace and cute chair backs.

Ask the Expert: Top Five Tips for Choosing a Reception Venue

by emma 6. June 2013 11:24

Thanks to Meredith Harrell, catering manager of wedding events at The Joule Dallas, for answering this week’s reader question:

We’re starting the overwhelming process of looking for a wedding reception venue. What are the top five things to keep in mind as we start touring reception spaces?

1. First impression is everything. The way you feel when you walk through the doors of that venue is the way your guest will feel as they enter your wedding. Make sure you instantly feel connected and you feel like it is an excellent reflection of you as a couple.

2. Ask yourself: “What is the most important aspect of my wedding?” If you want over-the-top florals and décor then it probably doesn’t make sense to spend 85 percent of your budget on the food and beverage at your wedding venue.

For more tips, follow Meredith after the jump.

3. It is important to know the maximum capacities of your venue. If you think your guest attendance could exceed that amount then you will want to be cognizant of that. There is nothing worse than making your guests feel uncomfortable in a space that is too small. You want everyone to be at ease and enjoy the ambiance of your wedding.

4. How much time is allocated for your setup and will you be the only wedding at that venue that day. This may not be important to you, but it is important to know and your vendors will certainly appreciate the information.

5. What is included with the venue? If, by chance, they have a fabulous house linen and charger then that could save you quite a bit of money! Some venues do not include tables and chairs and that cost will certainly add up more quickly than you can imagine.

I have always told my couples that the venue selection is one of the hardest parts of the wedding planning process but once you find the perfect venue, everything else will start to fall into place. One thing Dallas is not lacking is incredible wedding venues so for all the brides and grooms out there. Happy Hunting!
